Olympic Gold Guilt
Danny Cerezo

You’ve got zero to apologize for, Danny. Monica’s gold comes after a more than a century of Puerto Ricans (all Latino/as, really) being treated like we weren’t worth tin. Her achievement is an extremely powerful moment for so many different reasons. And yes, we are allowed to love the U.S. and still experience the confusing swirl of emotions that comes from feeling our cultural heritage of La Isla, but not knowing exactly where it fits in. Thanks for an eloquent and heart-felt piece.
