Nine days ago, I emailed a friend of mine, recounting how, while recovering from surgery, I had spent the previous week in bed watching The Wire. In writing him, I went about calculating the % of my life that I had spent in that bed watching the wire. In a wonderful coincidence, I realized that particular day (Oct. 4) was my 9,991st day alive. I was left with no choice but to celebrate today, my 10,000th day alive. I celebrated by buying a hat for myself and my girlfriend.

I then emailed some friends who I knew to be a month or so younger than me, alerting them of their upcoming day, and asking that they celebrate and, in turn, email a few friends they know to be a month or so younger than them. Etc. Etc. Etc.

Started a hashtag about it.
