History repeats itself when we fail to see the connections between headlines. The Metro’s cover page today seemed particularly egregious:

Around this time of year, I often find myself turning back to Tiziano Terzani’s Letters Against the War, a series of articles he published in the months following September 11th as he travelled east from Italy to Afghanistan, Pakistan, and eventually India. After struggling to find an English language publisher for the letters, he decided to publish the letters online for free, writing:

“I would be most grateful if you circulate text among your friends and…’adversaries’. It is time to think, to discuss, to argue and finally to raise our consciousness and to save ourselves. Nobody else can do it for us”.
