How I Went from 0-income in November 2017 to an 8-figure [multiple-income] Earner in March 2020
Hmmm…
I’ll never forget the day my co-author invited me to the shortest meeting I’ve ever been to.
I had barely sat down when she said, “Gbenga, I’m no longer interested in moving forward with this book project!”
She said that, stood up and left!
Was I devastated?
Well, here’s some background to this True. Life. Story:
I met my co-author at the YALI program set up by President Obama to empower young Africans.
As YALI fellows, we were encouraged to network during the program, and so she came to me…
2 hours later she had seen my book, proposed that we co-author another one, and I was airborne to Lagos.
Of course, I agreed to partner her because she brought in ideas that were hard to ignore. This was April 2017.
By November 2017,
→ I had been to Ghana more than 5 times [The book project was to launch in Accra and she was Ghanaian]
→ We had published a thousand copies of the new book in prep for the launch
→ I had raised and blown over a million Naira on this project
→ We had gotten so much promised support from the government, media, hotel, airline, and a popular ride-share brand to mention a few.
→ In short, we were in the news, courtesy the №1 National newspaper in Ghana
By December 2017,
→ We had launched the book in Kempinski [the most expensive hotel in Ghana]
→ Gotten checks in 10’s of 1000’s of Cedis [1 Cedi then was N100] written in co-author’s name
→ Received all kinds of publicity so much that we were becoming a household name
But…
It was that same December that she came to me with that infamous comment that spun my life around.
She left me with nothing! nada! shishi.
Towards Christmas, I left Accra with my wife to Lagos on a grueling 18-hour bus trip. Imagine travelling home from abroad by road!
[Wait…did I mention I couldn’t afford an extra 40Cedis [N4K] that my wife needed to pay as a first-time traveler by road from Ghana?]
Anyways, just so you know…December 2017 was the worst Christmas ever for me and my wife. But it was also the turning point…
January 2018 ushered in something that changed our lives for good, forever, wiping off all that ugly narrative above.
I discovered one way to offer my writing services to clients abroad, and then…an even better way!
First, it was Fiverr where I went from $5 [N1.8K] to making $500 [N180K] a month.
Then in August 2018, I moved on to Upwork and went from $1000 [N360K] a month to $1000 [N400K] a week.
Wait…did you notice I used the exact same profile pix for Fiverr and Upwork that I took at the book launch? Now, that’s how to turn your lemons into lemonade!
I even got a mouth-watering writing gig this May from a big-ticket client that I work with long-term on Slack…
And I rejected a $100K [40 million] a year writing contract [right in the middle of COVID-19] because I couldn’t work full time for them…because I had other ongoing gigs and I wanted to have enough time to coach others to online success.
By February 2020, I got a visa to travel with my wife on summer vacay to Capetown, SA but the pandemic came and stopped us in our tracks.
By March 2020, I got myself a sweet-red V6 machine even though I work from home and rarely go out. [No, I won’t show you the ride here!]
By April 2020, I invested in the Uber/Bolt ride-sharing biz…
By May 2020, I kicked off my 3X coaching program to show Nigerians how to succeed with their online business in 2020.
So, you see…
From 0-income in 2017, today I’m a fulfilled 8-figure [3-income] earner even in this C-season.
OK so, I’m not here to brag…I just wanted to inspire you and let you know that you can achieve success online LEGITIMATELY as I did.
I also don’t want all of this life-transforming experience I’ve gathered over the years to go to waste…
