I wrote several years ago that Apple had a giant opportunity in home automation (including energy management). At that time, the logical candidate for always-on hub device was Apple TV. As I said then, few other companies had the clout to do things like get needed changes in building codes and create a worldwide network of installers and maintainers (via Apple stores). They even had the core of a user-friendly home programming tool (unappreciated but critical) in their Automator Mac app.
So…no surprise here.
