The F-105 is probably the wrong aircraft for comparison, in my mind the Brewster F2A Buffalo is more appropriate, one of the first military monoplanes that used metal and cloth in its construction, it had poor maneuverability and was underpowered, it was virtually obsolete when it started its production run, and was nicknamed the “Flying Coffin” due to its dogfighting performance against the Japanese Zero.
