A few days ago, I read the article How Services Like Uber Have Changed My Life. It’s the experience of how Uber has help Evan, a visually impaired man, get around more comfortably.
I think my experience with Uber is much the same. As a person who stutters, picking up the phone to call a taxi is a herculean task. And then, when the taxi arrives, you have to tell them where you are going. With cab drivers, there is often a bit of a language barrier, which just compounds the situation.
Never mind the fact that the driver is no longer pushing you to pay with cash or the fact you can track their location as they pull up to where ever you are, the simple fact that I don’t have to pick up the phone or tell the driver where I’m going is enough to get me hooked and well worth the extra 5% tip it automatically adds on.
If I ever call a cab again, it will be too soon.
