Your statement about the necessity of an individual connecting with their trauma story as well as…
Laurie Hovis

I am nervous about asking someone to repeatedly retell their traumatic story, even in the presence of affirmations. I am reminded of what O’Donnell said about needing to build a container before going deeper into the work. I like the consideration of the body this book brings, which I see as useful to giving the person a sense of self that allows the organisation, perhaps even integration, of the trauma. Maybe it is my fear about being forceful that has me hesitant here.

I like your wondering about the capacity to stay with someone in their pain, it seems like a sister-thought to wondering about their capacity to stay with their own pain. I think your wondering about this will be one of the ways you are able to stay present with them.
