In this case Google couldn’t be more wrong. Ask anyone who their favorite boss was and I guarantee you the description will have little to do with knowledge and all to do with character. Just because you were a great widget maker doesn’t make you an automatic great manager (just the opposite in most cases). It’s a different skill set. We need to get rid of promotion based on seniority. If you don’t know how to bring out the best in people, even if that means they’re smarter than you, then don’t be in a manager’s role.
