Discourse

Discourse, oh we’re talking discourse… Discourse!?
(Hopefully you caught the Allen Iverson reference)
I found myself in an interesting situation last night. I struck up a conversation with a girl at a bar who I thought was gorgeous. My reaction as I saw her likely replicated this pugs impeccable head turn:

After the standard conversation etiquette involving the classic sequence of: where are you from, what school did you go to, what are you doing now, and so on. Our conversation oddly turned to the topic of discourse. Our conversation mainly consisted of what felt like a lecture on something I didn’t know existed. I didn’t fully grasp what she was saying until I slept on it and gave the concept a bit more thought. However, what I did get from the conversation was meaningful.
Discourse is the aggregate combination of who you are that’s backed by a variety of tangible and intangible factors. These factors range from genetics, environment, finances, and thought. Essentially, discourse is the innate catalyst within you that dictates how you navigate and respond to social situations. Discourse describes the communication dynamic between people, topics, things, and the social organization of society. For example, discourse determines how you think on a daily basis, it’s responsible for how you navigate socially, mentally, and spiritually. Moreover, discourse gives us a foundation for organizing our relationships with others and how we traverse through our social landscape.
Long story short, at the end of our conversation she told me I was too young. However, I did gain a new insight. I realized there’s ample opportunity to learn in any environment. I found an opportunity to learn about discourse, something I had no idea existed, at a bar! As someone who’s interested in personal growth and entrepreneurship it’s key to always seek opportunities to better yourself. In my case, I learned that every failure comes with a lesson.
