I think that there are elements of guilt, and fear of the unknown at work here. I think as an ordinary citizen I may just be afraid to believe that anyone running for office might be the real deal. Every time I fall for that I end up being disappointed and feeling like a fool.

But one wonders. Was it corruption that lead the Democratic Party to derail Bernie Sanders, or was it really just people who were trying their best, but in the moment of truth, simply choking because of either this colossal incompetence, or this self sabotaging guilt.

The problem I see with ignoring this, and chalking it all up to corruption, is that one imagines that the Democrats want to win. It did seem like they had a fairly easy task before them. Beat Donald Trump. But they chose, for lack of a better word, not to fight. There is a deeper meaning here. A party, or maybe even a nation, that has painted itself into a corner. We continue to do the same thinks that have not worked for decades. And we don’t even have a running dialogue in congress, in the media, or anywhere else of when and how we are going to change this.

Umair mentions mass extinctions, and climate change, and worse. And can we address that? We should, I think, demand a better deal. At the least a better deal than extinction!
