I find the more high-powered and ambitious, the more invested in the material world one is, the more likely they are to display “wrinkled noses” and “outright contempt” at this subject. Myself I’ve never understood it, it’s a mass delusion…everyone going about their lives as if it’s not going to happen. It’s fine, there’s nothing you can do about it. And it doesn’t mean the things you accomplish are meaningless, it’s just a reminder to not take yourself too seriously.
