The world is a global village, and we are all neighbors living in different time zones. This may sound poetic and romantic, but when it comes to scheduling meetings, conferences, or virtual hangouts, it can be a nightmare. Time zones have been around for over a century, but with the world becoming increasingly international, it’s time to ask ourselves: are they still necessary? In this essay, I will argue that we should get rid of time zones to simplify global communication, eliminate scheduling confusion, and avoid the absurdity of a system that doesn’t always align with the natural rhythms of the sun.

Time zones stink

Let’s face it, time zones can be a pain in the neck. Trying to coordinate a meeting with someone who lives on the other side of the planet can feel like solving a Rubik’s Cube blindfolded. You have to do mental math, use time zone converters, and hope that the other person got it right too. Even if you manage to agree on a time, there’s always the risk of someone forgetting to adjust for daylight saving time, or simply forgetting what time it was supposed to be. It’s a wonder we ever manage to get anything done at all.

Why are there time zones anyway?
