What Basics You Should Know About Google+ ?
Is it yet another social media?
Google doesn’t seem to allow custom url, meaning, Google either reserve , or allocate a url for an individual and business. Its not something ‘you go and pick’
A Social Media or a Social Layer?
Not exactly Google+ is a Social media. An anonymous Google staff used the term ‘Social Layer’ instead of ‘Social Media’ in his conversation with on Reditt .If its what Google insiders use to name Google+, then, it is not a conventional social media.
Why You Can’t Pick Your URL Unless You are Allowed?
Google has evolved as an online reputation system over the years. People ask Google many things in their day to day life. True. Considering the term Social Layer and Online Reputation System, Google is most likely to turn a portal for authentic verification system for individuals and business.
The google.com/+{url or name} leads to a page or profile. When I tried to find Mahathma Gandhi and Karl Marx in this way, I could not find a page or profile. These urls, say Mahathma+Gandhi in Google+ style, could be reserved for a Google Wiki . We are yet to know.
Say, in India there are lot of Taj Mahal hotels and Taj Mahal everything. Its a good idea to reserve the url Google.com/+Taj+Mahal for the one of the world’s wonder. Sounds reasonable?
Google+ urls are having a connected, established, probably, a domain with Google rank. Domain owners are identified as current contributors, not the domain itself.
The Confusion About Caused By GMail
Gmail, the largest service, could have (do have) more than one account for an individual for many reasons. When the email Google+ profiles are identified by corresponding gmail handles (There is a Google+ profile for each Gmail), it becomes hard to grasp how it works.In other words, Google+ profile exist just because a Gmail account exists, for time being. Now people need to consolidate, abandon the Gmails and associated Google+ profiles. They are busy doing it. When I created a noreply email for my domain, I could see associate Google+ profile and I was asked to create profile for No-Reply.
This morning I thought Google may add something like country code to a name to differentiate similar names in web. And, in evening, I saw a post on help forum about Google+ adding a city name as url extension, somebody not wanting it.
Google is most likely not to be rigid, or clear how it would proceed.
