Book Review: Rich Dad, Poor Dad

Growing up, I’ve always heard of the book Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki, however it wasn’t until this year that I read the book in its entirety. I wanted to go over some insights that I gained while reading this book.

Rich People Know Other Rich People

You’ve always heard sayings like “you are the average of the five people you surround yourself with” or “it’s not what you know it’s who you know.” This book helps detail why sayings like this are important. In the book Robert talks about how growing up he had his real father, his “poor dad”, and the other father, his “rich dad”,who wasn’t his father biologically, but played an integral role in Robert gaining the financial success that he has. He refers to his real father as the “poor dad” because while he was successful as far as having a good education and gaining good jobs, he didn’t fully understand financial literacy to the extent that his “rich dad.” The fact that Robert had a “rich dad” and “poor dad” is important because he knows not only what to do but what not to do in terms of climbing the financial ladder. Think about it, most if not all rich people you know at some point had a mentor who was richer than them. The mentor is important because they can teach the mentee the “unknown unknowns” that will help the mentee be…
