November 2017: So Thankful
This brisk and cool weather reminds us that the holidays are not far off. And whether you’re anticipating a move, planning your turkey dinner, or are in the throes of gift-buying, we have loads of information for you just below. But first, I just wanted to take a moment and say how grateful I am to you for always keeping us in mind for your real estate needs, and for putting in a good word for us with your friends and family. Our business grows through word of mouth, and we couldn’t do it without you. We promise now, and always, that you can count on us.
Breaking the News: A Word on Moving from Our Lifestyle Concierge
The Jump Off
If you’ve just listed your place or landed your new dream home, your hypothetical move is now a reality! Next step? Tell the important people in your life.
Maybe that means telling your roommate you won’t be renewing the lease, or telling your mother-in-law you won’t be living close enough for regular Sunday dinners anymore. If it’s a work-related move, you have the big task of telling your boss you’re resigning. No matter what, letting people know you’re moving can be very emotional — for you and for them. Try to find the right time to break the news and always be sensitive to how you can ease the transition for those you are leaving behind. If you have kids, timing your announcement correctly can help curb their anxiety. Experts recommend a month notice, unless packing/home showings necessitate breaking the news earlier. Also, making them feel like part of the process by giving them age-appropriate packing jobs and the like can give them a much needed sense of control.
We know it can be overwhelming to pack up a home you’ve been in for so long, to line up movers, to say goodbye. We can’t break the news to your mother-in-law for you, but we do strive to help in every other way. When you work with us, our in-house Lifestyle Concierge will partner with you, provide you with relevant checklists and resources at key moments in your move to take the guesswork and legwork out of the biggest moving milestones.

If your kids want to see the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace…
It’s happening here, too! WeWork is taking over the Lord and Taylor NYC flagship. It’s the end of an era.
Speaking of change, if the new Q train didn’t bring a boost to the Upper East Side, we bet this will do it: Michelle and Barack Obama were spotted apartment hunting in a tony area of the East 80’s. The former first couple must know NYC is a great place for a pied-à-terre… or, of course, a new permanent home!
And even the most devoted urbanites occasionally dream of the single-family detached home with a green yard and a white picket fence… but what do these houses really look like today? Check this out.
Gobble, Gobble, Gobble…
Now that fall has started in earnest, you’ve noticed crunchy brown leaves and dripping wet boots have made a mess of your front entrance. Time to step up your doormat.

And when it’s time to clean up, there’s nothing like a clever life hack to make things easier. One of our favorites is removing sticky glue residue from your hardwood floor with mayonnaise. We tested this and it really works!
“If you build it, they will come…”
Big news for Lego fans, the largest Legoland in America is coming to New York in 2020! Meanwhile, there is plenty to do in the city as it lights up for the holidays. The Gabriele Moment
Here’s what I’ve been up to these past few weeks as I walk, bike and race between the bridges and the parks.
Words of Thanks
Thanksgiving offers us an occasion to gather with friends and family and share words of thanks for all that we have. Words can definitely be powerful. That’s why my husband and I are such big supporters of First Book, a charity that provides books to children in need. Every child deserves an excellent education. Growing up with books can expand their horizons and so our annual donation has become a part of our Thanksgiving tradition. First Book gives us a chance to give back, to put our words of thanks into actions of gratitude. And for that, we are truly thankful.
They Said It
“More than just a real estate agent, she was our advocate, our teacher, and, when necessary, our psychiatrist. We can’t imagine going through the process of buying our first home with anyone else by our side.” ~J.A and M.G.~ Buyer
