Monstrous Births

I see so many women feeling like they want that empowering experience and have seen tragedy because of it, home births gone wrong. I decided years ago to abandon that and just go with whatever happened. Knowing that the birth experience is unpredictable and dangerous and I wanted every chance for a good outcome. My birth experience was alright, got the epidural, needed pitocin, pushed her out with suction help. Grateful that I was in a hospital for her and my sake. “just believing in your body” as our birth class teacher advocated is seriously NOT going to help you and making women feel like they did something wrong if they don’t do it 100% naturally at home is such a destructive pressure (emotionally and physically) The best thing I ever did was abandon the idea of “morality” in childbirth.
