You made quite the interesting point, but let me debate a bit on the semantics: “leisure” is commonly associated with some sort of (more or less frivolous) hedonism.

I would call the concept that you support more properly “otium”:

And I would make a point of the fact that an exact meaning might be lost if we used only contemporary words.
