a small handful of Grace’s Spotify playlists

a link to my profile lol in case, for some bizarre reason, you want to follow me

strings — the strings in these songs might not even be prominent but I believe them to be underrated and/or cool. (Faves: Forget About Dre, Selfless, Cold, and Composed, Independent Women Pt. 1)

HORNS — the songs in this playlist, on the other hand, have VERY prominent horns. And they’re all good. (Let Me Clear My Throat, Show Me What You Got, a lot of James Brown songs, Crazy in Love)

pairs of songs with eerily similar intros— this is one of my more popular playlists and one of the playlists i’m most proud of. It consists of songs that have REALLY similar intros. Sometimes it’s the same note played on the same instrument. Sometimes it’s the same chord or interval. Some are identical and some are a bit of a stretch. Some are identical for one second and some identical intros go on for 10 seconds. Please let me know if you hear of any in your travels. I should note that samples don’t count. (So don’t suggest “Walk on the Wild Side” & “Can I Kick It?”) (Back to Black/Baby Love, Are You Gonna Be My Girl/You Can’t Hurry Love, Warning/Picture Book)

Songs For Short Attention Spans AKA The Holy Grail— This is a playlist I’ve been working on for years. Every song on this playlist changes at some point in the middle. Some of them are long drastic changes (“Bohemian Rhapsody”) and some are very quick (“Numbers on the Board”). Also the subtlety of the songs vary. But there should be a recognizable change in tempo or in the melody/key. Also, there’s no musical term for this occurrence which is really frustrating. (Band On The Run, Suite: Judy Blue Eyes, Pyramids, Get Buck In Here, On Sight)

drums /percussion— cool drums and percussion. (Ooh Child, Roxanne, Monks, Music To Walk Home By, Fire)

bass lines — All these songs have great bass parts. (The Distance, Waterfalls, Morning Bell, Walk On The Wild Side)

WACK time signatures — time signatures that are either weird or they change throughout the song (Pyramid Song, 7/4 (Shoreline), Who Could Win A Rabbit, Come On! Feel The Illinoise)

Piano Hooks in Hip Hop Songs — Hip hop songs with hooks that are played on a piano/organ/keyboard. An instrument that has keys. (Still D.R.E., C.R.E.A.M., Just A Friend, Lemonade)
