Black Desert Online is a video game where you go kill things and get loot. It’s a simple premise done well, provided you enjoy grinding until your eyes bleed. As far as games go, its UI is well done. It even allows you to reposition and resize individual elements. Unfortunately, it is its very competence that makes its one glaring flaw that much more annoying.

In BDO, much like any other fantasy game, you can consume potions or cast spells on yourself that grant you different boosts to various attributes. However, the symbols on your HUD that represent what boosts you are receiving, curiously enough, cannot be repositioned or resized. This means you have tiny little squares with ambiguous symbols on them all the way off in the corner on your screen, a million miles away from every other piece of relevant information on the display.

Who thought this was a good idea?!

In a game that relies on real-time combat and number crunching on the fly, having to waste time hunting down icons seemingly randomly placed on your screen is pain.

The easiest fix is letting players change where they would like their combat buffs and various other effects to be displayed through the already existant UI customization. On the other hand, the developers could also make buffs be displayed with slightly larger icons in the middle of the screen, just above the gray stamina bar. This would place the info closer together, making the eyes have to do less work when taking stock of a given situation.

Honestly, the developers probably just did this to clutter up the screen, or it was an oversight. I can’t think of a legitimate reason to not let players rearrange where their important character information would be displayed if you already allow almost everything else to be moved and resized. It’s a small change that a lot of players are begging for.
