TOOL’s 13-year-long-awaited album, Fear Inoculum, is set to release this Friday. It leaked online last weekend after TOOL fans pressured someone to steal it, five days ahead of the official release date.

Reddit user Diazepam opened a megathread on Saturday to discuss the upcoming album on /r/toolband, the largest online community of TOOL fans. Once the album leaked, the discussion switched from hype and anticipation to a listening party and reaction thread. At time of publishing, it has over 2,500 comments and is still growing.

Early reactions Sunday and Monday were overwhelmingly positive, but over the last few days, a…

During the process of creating a RemoteApp collection on a new 2016 Remote Desktop Server, I received the following error message:

The security identifier could not be resolved. Ensure that a two way trust exists for the domain of the selected users.

The first thing I checked was the DNS Server. Issues like this are almost always DNS. Everything appeared to be in order.

I checked ntdsutil to make sure that all roles were delegated to the correct servers. I went through Active Directory with a fine tooth comb. Everything was within normal parameters.

Brainstorming, I thought that maybe the…

At first glance, Microsoft does not appear to sell unlimited email storage nor do their offerings seem to align with Google’s generous 1TB/unlimited mailbox sizes. In this article, I will show you how to double Hosted Exchange’s email storage (free) and how to enable Hosted Exchange’s unlimited email archiving (requires Plan 2.)

This article uses technical jargon and is intended for IT professionals.

In-Place Archive

The In-Place Archive is a free 50GB of additional storage, doubling each users’ mailbox size from 50GB to 100GB. It’s already included in your license.

Go to the Exchange Admin Center (EAC) > Recipients > Mailboxes. Highlight…

It is human nature to think of ourselves as having average or above average intelligence. Very few people think of themselves as dumb. At the same time, we think that people who fall for marketing gimmicks must be dumb and gullible. So, to maintain both beliefs (that we are smart and that only gullible people fall for advertising), each of us rationalizes that we are somehow immune to marketing.

The truth is that regardless of intelligence, we are all susceptible to marketing and advertising. You do not have a superpower. We are all programmed by what is repeated in front…

Yesterday, Comcast activated a 2000Mbit fiber service at my home. 2000Mbits is fast enough to download an entire 1080p movie in 24 seconds or a 45GB video game in just 3 minutes. Here’s what I did to make it happen.

Quick information before we begin:

  • 2000Mbit (2Gbit) speed both up and down
  • 1 Static IPv4 address.
  • 1 Static /48 IPv6 subnet.
  • There are no data caps— even in markets that usually have data caps.
  • 3–4 month lead time between first inquiry and activation date.
  • $299.95 + equipment fees + taxes per month.
  • $500 installation + $500 activation fee (non-negotiable.)

A need for speed

We are currently deploying Server 2016 at most of our clients’ offices. We are coming from Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7 environments, finally making the transition to Windows 10. After migration, we started having issues with the QBCFMonitoringService crashing.

After the service crashes, the next time an end user attempts to open a Quickbooks company file, Quickbooks displays an error. Sometimes it will open in single user mode, other times it doesn’t open at all. If you try to switch from single to multi-user mode, Quickbooks will give you an error and tell you to launch the File Doctor.

Update (2016/06/09): A product engineer from Lenovo contacted me after he came across this article. His team had also identified this problem and posted a fix on May 25th.

We have a root cause for this issue, and it will be resolved in our next UEFI BIOS release. Please take a look at this Solutions article HT500295. We have also posted the problem with solution in the Lenovo Enterprise Forums, as that is a common place that people go for help from the community.

I want to thank the Lenovo product engineer for reaching out to me about these issues…

Like many, I rely on my phone for email notifications. Recently, I stopped getting notifications of new emails.

While looking for a solution to this, I discovered that I was not alone in this issue. Nearly everyone with a newer Android phone had stopped receiving notifications about email.

Change your Gmail app settings.

I’m not sure if these settings were changed intentionally by Google to clean up what the designers considered to be “notification clutter” or if it was just an honest mistake. Either way, here’s how to fix your Gmail notifications.
