I think a lot has to do with the fact that the main client is named as the protocol. I don’t think it’s fair to make the comparison with web browsers the way it’s done here.

The first web browser wasn’t named HTTP, which is probably the root of the identity issue here. Perhaps Bitcoin Core could rename itself too and not name itself as the protocol.
