Passport is an official document issued by the government of the country. Along with allowing you to travel internationally it also acts as the biggest proof of citizenship as per the Passports Act of 1967. The offline process to apply for the passport is really time-consuming. Keeping this in mind the Ministry of External Affairs has started the online facility of applying for the passport. The majority of people now apply online for the passport.
After you have applied for the passport online and have successfully completed the “user registration” you will automatically reach the “applicant home page”. Given below are the further instructions to fill in the application form.
How to fill the application form?
Initially, you will have to click on the first link i.e. “Apply for Fresh Passport/Re-issue of Passport”.
Here you will find two alternatives to fill up the form. The first is to download the soft copy which will be in the PDF Format. It has to be filled up offline and then is to be submitted after completion. The second alternative is to fill up the form online itself and then submit it instantly. It is recommended to go with the first alternative to be able to fill the form carefully and without any mistakes.
To follow the alternative 1 follow the step by step by instructions given below:
Click on the link given to download the soft copy of the form in the PDF Format.
Once you click on the link the soft copy will be automatically downloaded as a zipped file.
Unzip the file from wherever it is saved on your computer.
After unzipping it, double-click on it to open it.
Now start filling up the application form. Make sure you do it very carefully.
Select applying for “Fresh Passport”.
Select “Normal” in the type of application. People who want to apply in an emergency may select “Tatkal”.
Now select the number of pages you want it your passport booklet.
Enter your first name and middle name in next field.
Now enter your surname.
Select “Yes” if you are known by any other name. Also, mention the other name if “Yes”.
Select “Yes” if you have ever changed your name before. If “yes” mention the name.
Enter your date of birth. First, mention the date, then month and then the year.
If your place of birth is outside India select “Yes”, if not then “No”.
Now enter the name of your village/city/town/state/district.
Enter your gender, male or female, and your marital status.
In the next field, all the citizens of India must select citizen of India by birth.
If your Pan Card Number and Voter Id Card number is available then mention it. If not then you can leave the box empty.
Select your employment type.
In the next step if your father/mother/spouse is a government servant then select “Yes”. Otherwise, select “No”.
Select your educational qualification.
You are eligible for Non-ECR Category if your qualification is above 10th standard, otherwise, no.
If you have any mark which is clearly visible on your face or neck or shoulder then mention it.
Mention your Aadhaar Card number if available.
Now mention your father’s name and surname, your legal guardian’s name, your mother’s name and surname and your spouse’s name and surname. The names should include the middle name also if any.
Click on “No” if your present address is in India. Otherwise select yes.
In the next step select “Yes” if your permanent address is same as your present address. Otherwise select “No”.
Now fill up all your emergency contact details. The details should include name, address, mobile number, telephone number and email address.
Fill out the contact details of 2 references in your city also. Again the details should include name, address, mobile number, and telephone number.
If you have had any passport previously, mention its details here. Also, if you have applied for a passport before and it was not issued to you then select “Yes” otherwise select “No”.
Now some other details are also to be mentioned. If you have been ever charged with any criminal proceedings then select “Yes”. If in the last 5 years you have been convicted by any court or been jailed for 2 years then again select “Yes” otherwise no. If you ever been denied for a passport before, select “Yes”. If your passport has ever been impounded or revoked then select “Yes”. Select “Yes” if you have ever applied for any political asylum in any other county. If you have ever returned to India on Emergency Certificate or have been deported from any other country then select “Yes”.
Then read the self-declaration very carefully. After going through it select “I Agree”.
Mention the date and name of the place.
Then the final step is to click on Validate and save. This will save your passport application E-form in XML format. This completed the filling process of the application form.
Now on the applicant home page click on the link to upload the filled form.
Select your fully filled XML-E-form and upload it. This will generate an ARN Number. You can check your submitted application with the given ARN Number.
Using this ARN Number you can also book an appointment at the Passport Seva Kendra. You will get the availability of dates and respective PSK and or RPO. You can finalize the date of appointment according to your own convenience.
A fee of 1500 Rs. Will be charged for booking the appointment. The accepted mode of payment is by Credit Card/Debit Card, by Bank Deposit or by Bank Draft.
