I struggle with visual conventions —specifically visual simplicity. Go through UI by Asians for Asians and you’ll find a drastically different aesthetic. It rarely follows minimalist-white space ‘conventions.’ A screen packed with buttons, images and text etc. is what you’ll commonly find. Check WeChat and Baidu and you’ll see what I mean. For it’s intended audience it works, it is efficient. If you look at streetscapes and art — this same business is present. There is a visual hierarchy but there’s also a richness of detail.
