The necessary rise of emotional design

I’ve been having similar thoughts these past few months. Designing for emotions is inevitable and to some extent is already being done. Facebook’s thumbs up comes to mind… it could easily have been a star or heart. However, I think the emotional reaction was an unintended result as opposed to a strategic move to achieve a specific objective. There’s a lot of theory but application seems to still be hit and miss.
