Fund Raising Activity
Charity is said to be a way for one’s own good. In Islam, it is considered to purify wealth and release from evil. In our society, where most of us have more than what is needed to survive and live a luxurious life, there are those who live below poverty line and do not have enough means to live a beautiful life where they can have meal three times a day and a roof on their heads. In Pakistan, 29.2% people live below poverty line which is too much. Thus, those who are blessed with wealth donate to those who do not have much.
We, as a group of 8 students, also played our part in this charity work to help needy by doing fund raising for Edhi Trust which helps poor, children, orphans, females, and older people. We formulated a scheme for this work and created a poster for this. Then, this poster along with its cause was updated on social media accounts (Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp). At first, only two people reached out to us to donate and all others read and ignored the stories. A few people also said negative things. This was a discouraging moment for all of us. We got slightly demotivated, but we all knew that this was coming so, we braced ourselves again and motivated each other to stay strong and do not let these people stop you working for this Nobel cause.
After few days, we decided to ask our friends and family members individually as putting stories was not just enough but some thumbs up and likes. We all pushed ourselves again and ask our friends who own some online business to put our poster on their social media accounts so that it can reach to more people as lots of people are attached with their business accounts. Asking everyone individually helped us a lot and many people donated us in few hours. Although there were few discouragements for which we were already prepared. But we knew better and focused on those who were positive in raising funds and appreciated their help and all these donations were then collected at one point (one person) to send them to concern Trust.
This activity taught us many things. We learned what it is like to ask help from someone for such type of cause because some people wanted proof of the fact that we were not doing this for our own selves so, we had to convince them that their donations will be sent to the respective Trust with full responsibility. Sometimes, we felt so embarrassed for even asking them. But we plastered a smile on our faces because we were doing this for a good cause and had to give answers to all the queries. We also learned how to tackle such negative situations and turn them into positive ones. This activity was also very helpful in teaching us that how to work in a team and in short span.
We all feel blessed to be a part of such an activity. May everyone’s efforts be appreciated and awarded by the Almighty.
