User Testing in our office

After two weeks of vigorous User Testing in our office, we have finally come to a successful end. It was a great moment for the entire team watching people uses the application on different platforms: iOS, Android and Mobile web.

To begin with, we created a screener which was distributed to respondents containing general questions about their demographics including questions about age, interests and area of work among others. We also found out about a previous participation of respondents in a marketing research conducted this year.

Respondents who fit the criteria of people we were looking for were invited to our office for the test. The selection was based on a number of criteria and respondents were judged against these set of criteria based on their responses to the screener test. A total of 10 respondents were invited to the office to test the app on 3 platforms: Mobile web, iOS and Android. Interestingly, respondents who included their telephone numbers in the contact form after filling out the screener were those who come to the office on time).

Each participant had a session lasting about an hour during which they were asked to perform a number of tasks with supervision from a moderator (a UX Specialist). As is required, participants filled a Non Disclosure Agreement (NDA) and were relatively more relaxed than expected to participate in the test. Tasks were mainly revolved around participant’s ability to read and also publish content on all 3 platforms.

Each session had a video screen recording of the participant’s interaction with the application in order to help UX experts with a more accurate analysis later. Participants after each test were asked to share their opinions by filling in a survey form that was provided for them. Participants spoke out their thoughts as they interacted with the application to perform their tasks.

The User Testing helped to identify some problems. Though most of the identified problems have already being resolved in design; awaiting development, they served as a source of firm conviction. The results proved a number of our hypotheses right. Other issues identified have also been noted and are being worked on currently by the Design Team to bring a useful and memorable experience to users.

We hope to perform another test soon when these currently identified issues have been well resolved. The Design Team is tirelessly working to bring the best user experience to our users.
