Diabetes is an autoimmune disease known as the pancreas not producing enough insulin hormone or the insulin hormone it produces is insufficient in the body.

Diabetes is of two kinds, type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes.

Type 1 Diabetes: Type 1 diabetes is a condition in which the hormone insulin is not produced in the body.

Type 2 Diabetes: Type 2 diabetes is the formation of a resistance to the hormone insulin in the cells of the body.

Type 1 Diabetes Treatment

In type 1 diabetes, insulin injection therapy is usually applied. In addition to insulin injections, regular nutrition and sports are the treatment of type 1 diabetes.

Type 2 Diabetes Treatment

In the treatment of type 2 diabetes, a strict diet program is usually followed and an active life is encouraged. If sports and diet are insufficient in type 2 diabetes, insulin injection treatment is applied.

What is the Importance of Diet in Diabetes?

The basis of the treatment of diabetes is based on diet. What is important in diabetes is to control the blood sugar level. This can also be done with regular feeding. The diet in diabetes is divided into three snacks and three main meals per day.

In a diabetes diet, there should be foods with low carbohydrate and fat content because foods with high carbohydrate and fat content can rapidly increase blood sugar and lead to imbalances in blood sugar levels. Diabetic patients should consume meat, vegetables, dairy, and grains together in their meals.

There are three main meals: morning, evening and noon. Blood glucose is measured in the morning, before lunch and dinner. Then, according to the blood sugar level, insulin injection is administered and food is eaten. Another important detail is that diabetics should be careful not to skip meals.

Digital Solutions in Diabetes: Insulin Pump

In recent times, with the advancement of technology, many devices have been developed to facilitate the lives of diabetes patients. I would like to tell you about one of them. An insulin pump is a small device that continuously pumps insulin into the body based on frequent blood sugar measurements.

We can refer to an insulin pump as an artificial pancreas. Due to the pancreas’ inability to produce insulin or its insufficient production in individuals with diabetes, the insulin pump takes on the role of the pancreas, providing many conveniences in the lives of diabetes patients.

Diabetes patients measure their blood sugar levels by pricking their fingers at least four times a day and administer insulin injections 3–4 times a day. This situation poses some challenges in the lives of diabetes patients. Insulin pumps are changed every three days, minimizing the need for finger pricking and insulin injections. Insulin pumps make the lives of diabetes patients more comfortable.
