Can you hear your Metis?

Metis is the Greek goddess of wisdom, prudence and deep thought. Her husband King Zeus absorbed her into his mind, so he always had her good counsel during testing times.

In reality, we all have a Metis within our minds. Metis is that inner voice of patience that tells us to wait in earnest when good things take a long time coming. She is the voice of courage that tells us to stand up for justice. She is the voice of self-restraint, that tells us to bite our tongue when we are about to hurl out hurtful words.

But Metis can only be heard by a silent mind, and if she is not heard, she may even stop speaking. Still your mind, and listen to her if you want to stay in touch with your Metis.

Often, our minds are very noisy with the yells and shrieks of anger, fear, guilt & despair. This blaring cacophony drowns out the wise voice of Metis. In times like this, we need to find someone who is in touch with his Metis, and who can hear her voice loud and clear.

This person can be a friend, partner, mentor, anyone who lets you express yourself freely, helping purge all the clamour within you.

Then his Metis gently brings alive the voice of your own Metis. And once again, your Metis speaks wisely to you, counsels you, and guides you through the storms of life.
