I decided to upgrade my old SeaGate hardrive to a new SanDisk SSD. In the past I did cloning of hardrives using Macrium, it has been a great tool without problems but until now. This time while I was cloning I got error in red color after pop-up dialog “Clone Failed”… the error was “Clone failed — Read failed — 13 — Permission denied — 32”.

Clone Failed error on Macrium

I read someone’s post on internet (probably Macrium Forum) saying that the problem can be caused by bad sectors in my old SeaGate hardrive and can be solved by manufacturer’s software called “SeaTool”, well that gave a bit ambiguous results of drive scan with SeaTool. I did a few scan, short, Long, etc… (they have a few options in the software), sometimes it said the scan failed, sometimes it passes the scan without error and sometimes it said your disk might have some serious problem and I should take backup of my all data. After all these scan I tried again Macrium and still the SAME ERROR :( I didn’t want to reinstall OS and then all the softwares and copy data for hours, so I didn’t give up. Just to mention, my old hard drive already had problems in the past and I never tried to repair completely, as long as it worked I just kept it in operation.

Next I looked up for alternative to Macrium and there were good reviews of AOMEI as well as easeus, I decided to go with AOMEI just randomly. It worked in first trial (keep in mind, I had to tick mark two option boxes before clone started, one was something to do with clone sector by sector which would clone the drive very slow and the other was to choose that my destination drive is an SSD)… I left it overnight and next morning clone was completed successfully.

This is not a comparison of different cloning softwares. I think all of them on market are great, Macrium, AOMEI, easeus… I would say pick one according to your need, and if one doesn’t work the other might for your case. Good luck.
