Some the best music to chill to this week.

I so appreciate a bunch of my old and new school homey’s reading this blog and sending in some of their underapprecciated favs, some of which made today’s list:

1. Ben Glover — “Keeper of My Heart”

Well for those of you missing the yearning of the “Love Is Hell”/“Gold” phase of Ryan Adams, look no further. You’re welcome.

2. Tish Hyman — “Subway Art”

And for any of you missing Lauryn Hill, check this one out and also seek out the wonderful video for this track. Thank you for this one Danny, from the UK Gunpowder & Sky contingency.

3. Los Lobos — “Hearts of Stone”

I just think overall this band is under-rated. Great singing, rhythms, leads, funk and soul. “Some Hearts are made of stone, some are cold as ice, some beat all alone, then there’s those made of steel, one’s that don’t even feel, where are those hearts made of gold”. C’mon, yes I’m a wimp.

4. Lloyd Cole — “Love Ruins Everything”

Been a fan of his from afar for a long time after “Don’t Get Weird On Me Babe”, and all the great movie music cues. “Who’s gonna carry us home, who’s going to drink till the morning”, romanticizing long drunken nights, which I had on Saturday after seeing Mt. Joy at the Troubador.

5. Corrine Bailey Rae — “Venus as A Boy”

I may have mentioned this one before. But how do you not like a song about the Roman God of love, fertility and prostitution.

6. Graham Nash — “Lady of the Island”

Kind of a perfect love song…about Joni Mitchell

7. White Denim — “Take It Easy”

Straight up blue-eyed soul. They have a new album coming in a week, but this is an old a-typical track from Stiff.

8. Bart & The Bedazzled — “Grownups”

If you’re missing jangly 80’s Aztec Camera like pop, check this one out.

Ladies Rule

9. Kacey Johansing — “The Hiding”

Think KD Lang around 1992 Ingenue period.

10. Lera Lynn — “What Is Love”

Duet with Dyaln Leblanc, another under-rated artist. She already has some True Detective cameo fame and worked with my bud T-Bone on a record.

11. Just Like Honey — “Note to Self”

I really love those old “Sundays” records in the early 90’s with Harriet Wheeler. That band just faded into the ether, but fortunately this new multi-national band brings that sound back.

12. Mikaela Davis — “In my Groove”

She sort of hits a 70’s Linda Rondstadt groove when Linda had the best So Cal players fortifying her sound.

13. M. Ward — “Let My Love Open The Door”

I never was as big a Who fan as my contemporaries, but I do love M. Ward and he brings some much needed pedal steel to this cover. Give it a minute,it grows on you.

Don’t operate Heavy Machinery While Listening to These

14. Gia Margaret — “Birthday”

Sad song and well don’t we all feel like crap if we’re not with a loved one on their birthday.

15. Wilco — “The Lonely 1”

This one comes from Mike and Judy, and def a deep album track, and without a doubt depressing as hell… but kind of a good depressing.
