Twin-tail Day in Japan: Give Hair Bands to Girls!
There is no shortage of weird celebrations in Japan. Take Valentine’s or Christmas culture, that Japan has taken and turned into something completely new. Take “strawberry day” (イチゴの日) on 5 January (1 in Japanese is “ichi”, and 5 is “go”. Strawberry in Japanese is “ichigo”, thus 1/5 is Strawberry Day). The second of February (2/2),”Twin-tail Day” (ツインテールの日), is another of them. Twin-tail day was officially approved by the Japan Anniversary Association on 24 January 2012. The reason why 2/2 is Twin-tail Day is simple; because a twin-tail consists of two bunches of hair.
Twintail Project Japan
Twintail Project Japan (日本ツインテール化計画), who presented the idea of “Twin-tail Day” to the Japan Anniversary Association, is the most widely recognized twin-tail appreciation group in Japan, with the motto: “ツインテールで日本の女性をもっと美しく、もっと元気に、もっと楽しく”, meaning “Making females more beautiful, more energetic and more fun, through twin-tails”.
