As Valentine’s Day or Single Awareness Day approched, students at Cerritos College prepared for the holiday.

Many students plan on celebrating their love with their families or significant other, but quite a few students are not as excited for the holiday.

Antonio “Tony” Guajardo, computer engineering major and currently in a relationship, claimed that Valentine’s Day is not a real holiday because treating someone special for a day is not showing love.

“Valentine’s Day is a ‘bullshit’ holiday to me because it is a day where we treat our significant other special, but not all of the other days of the year”, Guajardo said.

Another student does not celebrate Valentine’s Day, but for another reason. Tonya Martin, undecided major and not in a relationship, is going to church today fulfilling her duties within her religion.

Today happens to be the first day of Ash Wednesday in which it is the first day of fasting, repentance, and self-control according to The Sun News.

“It’s the day that the Lord sacrificed himself”, Martin claimed. She went on to say that her family will be cutting down the portions of all of their meals.

Ash Wednesday will end in 46 days.

Whether celebrating Valentine’s Day, Ash Wednesday, or living life, students at Cerritos College remain busy with school and upcoming midterms.
