How quitting Social Media improves the Quality of Life

August 2018, I woke up at 5:30 AM and had a sip, and this is the most motivated time of my life I’ve ever lived.

I went to my table looking for my diary which usually contains my To-do lists for the day (and at the moment, level of my optimism is at peak because I know I’m gonna slay the day). After spending some quality time with my books, I went out to see the rising sun and feel motivated because I am way more than thankful to be a part of this process of lightening the world. (Yeah ! Kinda Dramatic ! But it works). Same evening I’m done with most of my work and went for a light Jogging session, still having few hours to go to bed ,I do the extra mile. I am 20 years old guy from India, Sophomore at CGC College of Engineering pursuing Bachelors of Computer Science. I believe most people around me, specifically of my age, aren’t living a life of so called “Good Quality”, and are just waiting for notification to ring which just makes them wait for another.

Well, Wait ! How do I know this ? How can I make assumptions about people’s life?

Two years back

August 2016, I woke up at 6:30 AM, I am desperately looking for my phone, and after finding it somewhere in my bed, I checked what’s going on in Facebook, and other Social Media sites (including instant messaging apps), after a hour laying in my bed and surfing Internet for nothing, I got out of my bed and realized it’s almost 8:00 AM and have to leave for school, I am always in hurry because most of my time all I do was 10 % of work and 98 % of mindless scrolling( because 10 means 2 in binary :-D ). People around me think I am hard-working high school guy who has a lot of homework ( well, basically I had that but wasn’t working any hard on them ), even though I too used to thought I was so busy but reason was not that I was grinding ( the definition of grinding greatly changed for me in last few years ), it was because I was pretending to be busy by indulging myself in so many online useless posts, enjoying memes, group gossip with friends etc. I couldn’t imagine my life without social media.

Are you living this life too ? Then tell me you are missing a treasure.

My Social Media Addiction Detector

Before further telling you how social media improved my life, let me bless you with a test to check if you are a Social Media Addict too, I have designed this 5 question to test if you are a Social Media Addict too, real quick. So here are five questions to ask yourself:

1) What is the first think you do after waking up in the morning ?

2) What is the last think you do before going to bed ?

3) What do you mostly do when you take or have breaks from work ?

4) When you do a tough task like solving problems, Is there something that comes to your mind often (to disturb you) ?

5) What makes you feel lonely when you don’t have it ?

If your answer was Social Media for more than three of these answers then you are also a Social Media Addict and believe me you are missing something called being “ Socially Alive”.

What do I got after quitting Social Media ?

Here let me tell what were the changes I felt in my lifestyle after quitting social media for almost a year, this list is going to be more brief, but what made quitting Social Media worth it was the quality and quantity improvement in my life, you make more time for relationships, work, your hobbies and the list goes on.

More Time and More Energy.

No more Fake Friends around.

Saved money on data, of-course.

Better sleep.

Early morning, grinding.

and much more.

Conclusion:

Objective of this post was not to make you quit social media but to tell how can social media kill your productivity, at the end it is all upon you how you use it but I suggest not to be a Addict. I was total social media addict for last few year since I left it, I just want you to be more productive at your work after reading this article.

Thanks.
