Why Facebook Friends don’t mean a thing

I ran an experiment, trying to see who really cared about me. It was two weeks ago when I decided to deactivate my Facebook account, and permanently delete my Instagram account, just to get away from the madness of Social Networking.

The only Social network I’m on is Twitter, because I have a huge following there. So, as the story goes, I found my days to be more productive and I found that I got more time. I got great results in my class tests, too (I’m a college student), and for the first time I had aced a subject, like the first in the whole class. This made me happy.

My daily routine changed from going on Facebook and Instagram, just trying to see what was up with the lives of my friends (I don’t post often because I don’t seem to get any likes), to getting more time to read and also reduce some of that peer pressure. I stopped caring.

And that’s brings us to today ( the 25th of August), which is my Birthday. I woke up, with my parents wishing me in the morning, at 7:40 a.m. (yes, I live with my parents). I took my phone and got online (Whatsapp) to see if anyone remembered my birthday. Unfortunately, none of my friends knew. I was taken aback. I’m usually the first person to wish them on their birthdays, but no one even cared for mine. That’s when I realized that online “friends” don’t mean a thing. Social Media is just an illusion.

Edit: After half a day, one of my old friends wished me ‘Happy Birthday’ in a group chat (It was a Class Group of when I was in 12th Grade) on Whatsapp, and suddenly, a handful of friends wished me.
