Nowadays, one of the most common issues related to business and management is the leadership; Thousands of words have been written about it and far from decrease are imploding day by day, on the other hand, every single individual thinks that is endowed with these personal skills.

Managing the leadership, as a whole, takes time, effort and experience.

The increased interest about this, clearly reveals a lack of real uncut leadership inside the organizations, despite this opinion, a great percentage of people think that they are exerting it.

Undeniable, there are a lot of great leaders running outside, but in my opinion there is a huge gap between the way we think about and our real behavior, the literature is pretty interesting about what leadership is but the truth is hundred miles away from the roles most of CEO´s or Managers play in their companies.

Despite the fact that most of them have a crystal clear perception about his own attributes to head up their companies, the truth is far away from their vision, basically due to his own self awareness, as a whole, doesn’t exist. If you don’t own a real perception of yourself, how should you know manage a team?.

Outcomes, revenues, profits are permanently on the landscape of the “HIPPO´s” and the goals are becoming more and more struggling and in the meantime, terms to be profitable are shorten.

As a consequence, leaders forget more often than not, those lovely manuals and those leadership master classes becoming one of those toxic profiles instead of, as they were perfectly described by D. Goleman and poisoning the entire organization.

Perhaps you think that these situations are reserved just for a crisis period but the question is, are these leaders endowed with the real and necessary attitude to be reliable?

If you have ever worked at any company, and I’m quite sure you probably did, you know exactly what I’m writing about. Under pressure you will be able to realize which recipe exactly these leaders apply day by day.

There is no leadership without self-awareness. This is on the basics, and we can’t learn it on a manual, if you lie to looking yourself at the mirror every morning, you won´t achieve it, on the other hand, if the values still weak, leadership will fail, no matter your outcomes. Closing deals shaking hands could sound hilarious, or not? This is not related to leadership, is merely about your personal values.

If we are not committed with our values and disposal to address our life through several simple values, we´ll never get it. I was wondering why Stephen R. Covey´s book “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People” was a best-seller and the answer was revealed to me as obvious, we are trying to find out our lost values because our way of life simply destroyed the evidence of humanity. how could we achieve the great values described on Stephen´s book ? Read it in between lines.

It is said that, there is no leadership without a team, equally that there is not success for an artist without an audience, however, most of creative people were counter-culture and some of them never succeed from our point of view but they did whatever it took to keep his work on his way, as for instance Van Gogh did. May be it sounds so obvious but is not, leadership should be joined to our values instead of the circumstances, the “Check Point Charlie” of leadership starts over us.

Maybe if we get ready to manage ourselves we will be thinking about how to manage the others. Real leaderships start on our own conscious. The organizations doesn´t build leaders, on the contrary, leaders are the key factor on setting up well performing organizations.
