The beginning of the article is interesting but the end leads to think that we will have to undo all the socioeconomic growth that has occurred in the world in the last 50 years to have sustainability. All people want to go to the supermarket and consume their steaks and fresh vegetables. It does not make sense to talk only about local production. It’s a good solution, but it’s expensive and not everyone has the money to pay. We will rather increase production and the level of productivity of agricultural areas. We will have to use more water to irrigate the fields so it will not be necessary to open new areas, now preserved with native vegetation. Reuse of water is one way we can use more water for production. I do not believe that only producing local food like our ancestors did is the solution at all. How do people who live in areas covered by ice for 6 months of the year wil have access to food in sufficient quantity?
