“Any interview tips for the kid before he goes in?”
I recently received this question from a junior designer friend. I quickly typed up a response and sent it off to him…
Hit on three things in your interview and you’ll be fine:
Tell great stories about who you are, what you’ve done before, and what you plan on doing. Communicate the context, events, and learnings from each of these. Be interesting.
Show that you are able to analyze research, systems, or designs to the smallest detail. Share your unique insights about each of them. Prove your brain.
Prove that you give a damn. Leave the interview with the interviewer thinking “wow, that kid is really going to do awesome things in life.” Be excited, energetic, and optimistic.
I think this covers 99% of what I like to see from any candidate. What do you think? What is your framework for finding great people?
