Many online games favor “early players”. If you get in early, you can “rank”, whereas late adopters have an incredibly hard time just getting started because there are so many powerful early players that want to eat them.
That’s why games do one of two things: offer n00b protection, or reset the universe.
I don’t know what it is like to start on Medium now. It can’t be easy.
I’m still having fun. I have my frustrations, but, on balance, Medium is a great place to write. The best place I have found on the Internets. My heart hurts from all of the wonderful writers who were here who have left. That said, I have plenty of people to goof around with right now. I think it is harder to find the things I want to read than in the past, but my tastes are extremely esoteric, so the fact that I can find anything at all is a boon.
As far as I’m concerned, you’re already a “top writer” in the “vague yet poignant” category! You kind of own that space. It will be a test of Medium to see if you can find people who appreciate your writing on this platform. If not, it’s Medium’s problem, not yours.
