Can Pacific Standard thrive in a post-clickbait era?

OK, I’ll bite. I think Medium has hundreds, if not thousands, of stories that matter. Today I read about a woman who lost her infant son. It wasn’t VICE style emotional sensationalism. It was a real story, by a real person, who was able to eloquently express her own experience. I’m not sure you can get closer to the bone than that.

I had nothing but antipathy for Pacific Standard before I read this article. I am cranky and oppositional, and so when the “pro” publications moved onto Medium I was actively uninterested in what they had to say. I have a subscription to the New Yorker and the Atlantic. If I want more of that stuff I know where to find it.

But I will take your word for it that Pacific Standard is doing something interesting here. I’m going to follow them and try to give them a fair shake.

The Cauldron is on Medium but not on Medium.

Eidolon is very much on Medium.

If they want attention, they will have to pay attention, amirite?

This was an interesting read. Thanks.
