Golden latte has gained popularity in recent years as a caffeine-free alternative to coffee or tea, and is often enjoyed as a cozy drink before bedtime or as a mid-day pick-me-up.

Turmeric has long been used in Ayurvedic medicine for its potential health benefits, including as an anti-inflammatory agent and to aid digestion. Golden milk was traditionally consumed as a bedtime beverage in India, made with turmeric, milk, and other warming spices like ginger and cinnamon. The drink was believed to have calming properties, promoting restful sleep and aiding in digestion. In recent years, golden latte has gained popularity in Western countries as a trendy health drink, often enjoyed as a caffeine-free alternative to coffee or tea. The addition of black pepper to the recipe is said to enhance the absorption of turmeric’s active compound, curcumin, which has been studied for its potential anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

Our Golden Latte Recipe

Ingredients 2 servings of golden latte:

  • 2 cups milk (dairy or non-dairy)
  • 2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp cinnamon powder
  • 1/2 tsp ginger powder
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1–2 tbsp honey or maple syrup (optional, to taste)

Instructions:

  1. In a small saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until hot but not boiling.
  2. Add the turmeric powder, cinnamon powder, ginger powder, and black pepper to the saucepan and whisk well to combine.
  3. Continue to whisk the mixture over medium heat for 1–2 minutes, until the spices are well-incorporated and the mixture is fragrant.
  4. Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in honey or maple syrup, if using.
  5. Divide the golden latte between two mugs and enjoy warm.

Note: Feel free to adjust the amount of spices and sweetener to suit your taste preferences. You can also experiment with using different types of milk, such as almond or coconut milk, for a dairy-free version.
