You can do the exact same thing with Slack.

What the author is describing is more like an ad-hoc channel, that was needed after the one person you were talking to suggested to add another person to the conversation. You just can’t do that on Slack, and that’s crappy.

Also, channel usually just “stays” there until you archived them, which is another action that’s too complex.
