The scenarios you describe usually occur when there is a a weak Human Resources or Labor Relations function. In large corporations I have worked in that is not the case, so the horror stories don’t usually happen. When they do they are swiftly dealt with. Not dealing with the type of behavior you describe fosters a culture of “anything goes”. Your encounter with an HR representative is sadly typical at a lot of large employers. Hope others learn from your experience.
