I can think of a great many countries that, in their broader nationalistic spirit, believe themselves more egalitarian than the reality of the United States. The trouble being those sensationalist superiority complexes don’t have any real grounding. I don’t know how useful it is to bemoan the state of American affairs because other countries look down on us — by that same measure, we look down on a great many of those same countries! Surely, then, such impulses are not to be trusted as they contradict each other.

More rigorous comparison can be useful, but ultimately our problems are problems because they are problems, not becasue Europe likes to forget how it treats ethnic and racial minorities or, as you say in your own post, China likes to pretend anti-blackness is a foreign disease despite locals carrying the pestilence about with gusto. These nationalist egos tend to be as fragile and wrong-headed as our own bragging about democracy and freedom and equality.
