The fact that Vue is really easy gave me a really good control of what’s around Vue, and not really what’s inside, you’re absolutely right.
I feel that it is really easy to dive into other’s libs, and edit it. I can fork a lot without thinking about what they wanted to do when they wrote their libs. This is still really easy to do with react, but I found it a bit harder.
I think react would be a really good fit for me for a really huge project, because it can be configured and optimized easily for a really specific need. IMHO, they are doing this better than every other competitor (They might owe this to their authors, Facebook developers). But for a small or medium project, it makes configuration a breeze, and let me focus on my work as a developer.
It definitely copied React. Switching from React to Vue was so easy because I already learnt a lot of concepts from the first one. But I won’t stop using it because it was highly inspired by a competitor. This is open-source technology we are talking about, and this is supposed to happen.
