From the beginning of time, we’ve gazed into the heavens and wondered. Anyone today who strays from city lights is swallowed up by the enormous mystery of that starry vault overhead. We view the sky with ancient eyes. We feel an odd familiarity.
The stars make ancients of us all.
We discover our blooded kinship with the poet Hesiod who looked up into the same skies as today’s pre-schooled children and created — or recreated — the genealogy of the gods in his Theogony.
You and I will never occupy again the uncluttered and pristine minds we romped so happily in before Kindergarten began education’s twelve-year mission to scrape out every trace of our residual ancient memory.
Nor should we keep residence there. It’s the inevitability of progress. Either you move forward or … or … who knows? The world’s not allowed the freedom of retrogression.
But despite her mission, education can’t remove our rooted fascination with our mythological ancestry. It’s part of our spiritual DNA.
