As someone who uses Emacs, I agree with a lot of this. There are some differences though, like how Emacs comes with an XML-IDE that lets you do stuff that’s slightly more advanced than mere search and replace. You also get stuff like XPath and XQuery if you want them. It makes XML much more palatable.

However, yes, the modern editors are kinda crap compared to Vim/Emacs. while Vi Vi Vi is indeed the editor of the beast ( :p ) it’s not bad at it’s job…
