Will Drone Transportation Become the New Face of Logistics ?
Parcel transportation has always been regarded as a time-sensitive and hectic work for Logistics companies that seek to separate themselves from the competition.
All parcels have to be firstly scanned and identified by their nature, for example:
- Dangerous goods.
- Hazardous material.
- Food stuff.
- Perishables.
- Temperature Controlled Goods.
Secondly, all items should be assorted whether they are inbound or outbound cargo until the final step which is the delivery and dispatch.
The latest technologies in transportation are Transflo Telematics ELD systems which are softwares that help you, as a carrier, to track your vehicle, monitor fuel consumption, and aid you with ameliorating the management of your fleet through cutting costs.

However, what if I told you there is also an easier way to handle your fleet without getting involved with issues like truck maintenance, road traffic, and monitoring your driver’s activity ?
The answer may lie in the new technology Amazon is working on. A drone center that is focused on transporting your order from their warehouse to the porch of your front door.

The Amazon PrimeAir drone is able to lift a parcel that weighs up to 5 pounds within a window of 30 minute-delivery.
The first actual delivery was made on December 7, 2016 and it rendered as a success through transporting a package within 13 minutes only.
Drone transportation might just be around the corner. Moreover, Amazon has been awarded on June 23, 2017 a patent for a beehive drone warehouse, the first of its kind.

I believe drones are the future of parcel delivery however, they still have a long way to go. They still need to meet different safety requirements, operate perfectly during different weathers, succeed in a night time test, and prove that they can also be cost effective on a mass-scale.
