Upcoming Events in Syracuse

Well, the snow hit. In case you choose not to burrow under blankets and wait until spring to leave your home, we have some upcoming events you should be aware of.

SALT Makerspace 3D modeling class

2/18, 6–8 PM

This two hour class is coming up next week and takes place at the SALT Makerspace in Syracuse CoWorks. Seating is limited to four people per class, so it will be very hands on. Attendees will learn how to make 3D models using tinker CAD as well as how to use the 3D printer. Buy tickets here.

Phoenix, Clojure and more!

2/29, 5:30 PM

This one is cheating a bit since it is in Saratoga Springs and would require a drive, but they are live streaming the meetup, so I’m counting it in. This is hosted by a rather new meetup group called AgnosTechValley. Check out their site for more info on the group, but consider attending this event to learn a bit about the Phoenix framework. RSVP here.

Women in Coding & Design Interest Group

3/3, 6–7:30 PM

Syracuse Tech Meetup is hosting an event to assess the needs to start a Girls Develop It Syracuse chapter. Something to note about Girls Develop It; the group is actually open to all genders. If you are someone who would be interested in lending a helping hand teaching, participating in the group, or just supporting the cause, you should absolutely attend. RSVP here.

OpenHack Syracuse

3/8, 6–9:00 PM

If you haven’t been to an open hack yet, March is as good a time as any to give it a go. You can code on anything, in any language, and on any framework. It is a great opportunity to networks with other developers and either get help on projects or work on someone else’s idea. Food is provided. Keep an eye on their site to RSVP.

Adult Robotics Club

3/10, 6:30 PM

Fayetteville Free Library is hosting an adult robotics club once a month. It is community led by volunteers and focuses on building hobby robots, so if you (like me) have had an interest in working with hardware, this could be a great opportunity to learn with a low barrier to entry. I plan to attend the March meeting since the February meeting was cancelled due to weather. Hopefully I’ll see you there. Register here.

Keep in mind that if you have your own idea for an event, you can broadcast that to an audience of 1300 people through the Syracuse Tech Meetup group. Fill out the form to create your own meetup event here. More events are a good thing; they offer great opportunities for education and networking.
