As I mentioned in my previous entry, The Design Thinking process has opened my eyes to the importance of collective thinking. We were able to solve a problem in a very unexpected manner.
In this entry, I want to start by talking about the importance of To-Do lists. Every morning I start my day by using the sacred notes app and writing out what I am planning to do. What dominated my list was the deliverables I had for that week at work. I have to mention that I have daily, weekly and monthly lists. They help me stay productive and efficient. This capstone project reminds me of a very important and comprehensive to-do list, but the trick is you do not get to check things off, instead, you have to navigate between the 5 things you need to do and continue to go back and forth.

This week’s class has been the most challenging yet because we had to specify our question and the issue that we wanted to focus on and tackle as a team. We realized that our back and forth discussions were hitting a dead end when it came to helping working moms. So we decided to start from scratch and ask ourselves what is an issue that is close to home. As a team, we know that we will not be able to think and debate unless we can all find common ground.
Domestic Violence
Each one of us is close to someone or knows someone who is the victim of it. It was as if a light bulb struck at that moment. We started talking and sharing the stories of the people we care about, we knew we wanted to figure out HOW TO HELP WHO EXPERIENCED DOMESTIC VIOLENCE DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT?

We created a survey that we sent out to 100 women that asked them if they knew anyone who is facing Domestic Violence, and if they did who was it? And what type of violence took place (emotional, physical, or financial).
The answers gave us insights into creating our persona, we created a hybrid character based on the responses and the people we know. We started out with how she spends her morning, her thoughts, her feelings, and fears not just her routine. We finished her journey with what she goes through before bed.
We were a bit emotional when we took a look back at what we wrote down because it became quite real and tangible that this is something that happens in our society day in and day out.

The next step was to zero in on what we wanted to say or to be more exact what we wanted to solve rather than the big umbrella question, Which was
How can we provide women with the tools needed to report and change her situation?
I can’t wait to continue tackling this project
